If it’s in your NDIS plan, nothing directly. The NDIS covers the support costs: the workers, the assistance, the overnight care. But remember, you’re still paying for personal expenses like food, phone bills, streaming subscriptions, and any rent not covered under SDA. Think of it this way: NDIS pays for the person helping you cook; you pay for the groceries.

Absolutely. You’re not stuck with whoever shows up. If someone’s personality clashes with yours or you just don’t feel comfortable, we change it. Simple as that. Your NDIS plan gives you choice and control, and that includes the people in your home every day. We do compatibility matching upfront, but sometimes it takes actually living together to know if it works.

Group homes are the accommodation; the physical building. SIL is the funded support you receive while living there. You could live in a group home without SIL if you don’t need daily assistance. Or you could have SIL in your own apartment. They’re related but separate concepts, which is why the terminology constantly confuses people.

Frustratingly, there’s no standard timeline. If your NDIS plan already includes SIL funding and we have suitable SIL vacancies in Melbourne, it could happen within weeks. If you need to request SIL funding first, add months for assessments and plan reviews. Then there’s finding the right match. Rushing into the wrong living situation helps nobody.

Of course. It’s your home. You’re not in an institution with visiting hours. Want your sister over for Sunday lunch? Fine. Mate staying the weekend? No problem. The only consideration is if visitors impact other residents in shared accommodation, but that’s basic courtesy, not a restriction.
